Kismet gps and wardriving
Hi, im trying to gather some data for a mini report on wardriving but am having trouble with GPS and kismet.
Im looking for a GPS device that will work with gpsd and kismet, does anyone have any recomendations? i was thinking about using a tomtom XL IQ Routes Edition 2 but i have no idea if it will work. Iv tryed googleing for for it but i just get crap tutorials on how kismet works.
Also iv got kismet working fine and it gathers data, but how do i search through this data i.e. how do i put bssid etc into an excel file, iv tryed scripts iv got offline but they dont work. This is without GPS data.
Re: Kismet gps and wardriving
What GPS devices does kismet recommend? That's where I would start looking.
Re: Kismet gps and wardriving
I did get a Holux GPSlim236 blue tooth GPS receiver working with BT but did not try Kismet. I was trying airodump-ng but it had problems at the time. I need to dig out my notes and try again. You need Gpsd running first as far as I can remember.

The new kismet will talk directly to compatible gps devices now. No need for gpsd screwing up the data.
Re: Kismet gps and wardriving
Just bought a BU-353 GPS Receiver £20, following the guide from:
http://blog.securityactive.co.uk/200...d-backtrack-4/
Will start looking at kismet compatible gps devices, hopefully there is a tomtom or some sort of sat nav I could use, will see how this BU-353 play out at the weekend.

Just got my Holux GPSlim236 blue tooth GPS receiver working with kismet two ways using Gpsd and without GPSD.
How I did it!
eeepc BT4-r2 plus USB bluetooth dongle
Used link above. http://blog.securityactive.co.uk/200...d-backtrack-4/
Edit /etc/bluetooth/rfcomm.conf
also edit /usr/etc/kismet.conf
# rfcomm connect x (x = setting used in /etc/bluetooth/rfcomm.conf)
# kismet

I've not seen any satnav that can be used with a computer.
Re: Kismet gps and wardriving
Got everything working fine, saw barry's guide in another section (link bellow) and got everything working fine.
To Barry's How to get a compatible USB GPS to work with Kismet
http://www.backtrack-linux.org/forum...rk-kismet.html
I just connected my device and edited the kismet config and everything worked fine once my gps got a signal.
The only question i have left is, is there anyway to combine the .kml files so that i could go for a drive and keep adding to my original file so that i map a city in a couple of days instead of trying to do it in one run.
Cheers Barry

No problem, figured I ought to contribute something other than Thron's "old guy" jokes to the forum.... There are a few apps out on the internets for combining kml files. I've not tried any of them though. One of the old regulars on the netstumbler forums wrote one as well, but I can't get onto the site at the moment, here's one I've seen before though.

The NS Forums are being revised; aFR just sent me an email informing me of the fact. Apparently, he's switching the forums software to PHP-BB. I have no idea what prompted the sudden change or when it will be fixed.
And just because I have a son older than you, doesn't make me that old. :p
