Startx gives me a black screen after backtrack rc2 update
Hello,
Usually, I can find myself the solution to my problems, but I have no idea what to do for this one. I just upgraded backtrack from rc1, following the guide, and all went well. I can boot fine, I get the login prompt, then after that when I type startx to get the GUI, the screen just flash 1-2 times and then stay black. The only thing I can do is shutdown the computer and restart it. What could be the problem? Maybe it's not recognizing my screen resolution? Or maybe it's forcing a higher resolution than the screen supports?
Thanks.

Try booting from a live DVD. If that is working you might want to move your X server's config file and try it again.
Re: Startx gives me a black screen after backtrack rc2 update
Fix-vesa actually allowed me to start normally, but now I'm stuck with 1024x768 resolution, and my screen is 1280x800. I tried editing the xorg.conf, adding my resolution, but it just keeps giving me a black screen if I load the intel drivers instead of the vesa one. Anyone here running on a MacBook 2.1 (or more recent) in 1280x800 and with RC2 could have a look at their xorg.conf file and give me a hint or just post it?

There are at least 10 threads covering that, but you never bothered searching the forum, did you? ;)
Code:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
reading logs is always usefull as well
Re: Startx gives me a black screen after backtrack rc2 update
I ran those commands, and now I can't even get it to work with fix-vesa. I'm getting the black screen each and every time I start.

well in this case showing the xorg log might come handy
