Can't detect WPA handshakes

Not sure what I'm doing wrong but I have never been able to detect a WPA handshake when using airodump-ng.

I have attempted to deauthenicate clients and simply tried waiting - it is as if airodump isn't listening for them.

This is what I am attempting to do

airmon-ng start wlan0

iwconfig set rate 1M wlan0

airodump-ng -c 6 -w handshake -a 00:18:4D:6A:FD:0C wlan0

Why can't i see the handshake?

Check the aircrack-ng documentation this is a widely covered topic.
Further we do not support any other OS here.
