Booting into Backtrack on a MacBook Pro
I've got a 2010 MacBook Pro and I am able to run BT4 without any
problem using VMware, but for forensic reasons, I would rather run
it as a live DVD or off of a thumb drive.
I've burned the BT4 .iso to a DVD and I'm able to get to a command
prompt, but startx won't work. I modify the xorg.conf to something
reasonable, but I just can't get the display to work.
Using rEFIt, my MBP flat out refuses to boot off of a BT4 USB key
that I created.
Has anybody with an MBP successfully booted directly into BT4?
Thanks!

Not a bug, so have moved this here.
We have had threads here before about running BackTrack on Macs, which you should have a search for.
What forensic reasons are you referring to when you say you want to run it off a thumb drive/DVD?

Re: Booting into Backtrack on a MacBook Pro
you are going to have issues running BT off of a thumb drive since macs have issues booting of non mac formated drives. If you look on goolge there are people who have done it.
But to boot off live dvd you can do one of the following after inserting dvd into you drive
1.) go to system preferences => System => Startup Disk => sleect the dvd and hit restart
2.) shutdown your mac => power on and hold C until the sound and it will force it to boot from cd drive
Apple Keyboard Shortcuts
Hope this helps
