BAcktrack / KDE interface. WHich is better?

I've recently created my second USB running backtrack 4 and at the startup of one session, I was asked if I wanted to install/configure (I am not sure what exactly they asked me: one or the other) KDE. Thinking it a part of my program installations, I completed the steps in its installation/configuration. Due to lack of time, I had to log off backtrack right after. When I launched backtrack that same day again, my whole interface had changed to KDE. WHat exactly happened? If it did change me from BT4 to KDE, which is better? Pros and cons?

KDE is a desktop manager, and Back Track is a linux distribution. There is a difference between the two.
As for what you have done it seems you probably updated kde to the latest version.
I would suggest you start over since as you stated you recently created this usb stick.

I shall do so in the near future.

As for those who have the latest KDE version as desktop manager, do all the applications/programs found in the first installed version of KDE still present? If so how can I easily access all of them?

KDE 3.5x is the version in BT4 any other Desktop environment is not supported. There are a few guides on getting to others such as gnome working but again you are on your own with this.

What's so wrong with KDE ? The interface doesn't matter because most apps are from console.

I think people are used to Gnome. Once you play around with enough window managers it really doesn't matter. Gnome, KDE, Fluxbox, Explorer, Quartz, it doesn't matter.

Like sickness said though, just about all of the tools should be run from the CLI.

I don't know why so many people are worrying about the "looks". You get Backtrack for the guts and goodies it contains.

Ok I fear I have not phrased this correctly. What I meant was that the major difference between both was that, in the first, we could access all the applications and programs through the K menu. Something I was not able to do in the latest. Yes I know kinda noob. but I don<t know all the commands to all those applications yet to start them through konsole :S

Well that's certainly not what you made in the first post.
However all you would need to do would be to use google to search for the name of the program or application and "command line start".
Most "major" programs use the name itself to start up. Firefox = firefox etc.
This should easily solve the problem of not knowing.
Then use the menu editor, right click on the dragon and add the command/program you want.
