which alfa usb adapter should i buy

I got a AWUS036H 500mw usb adapter that works with bt3 but as im going to try bt4 and looking to buy a new usb adapter i was wondering what one i should buy between a AWUS036H 1000mw and the AWUS05NH.

This should help: Wireless Card USB . Out of curiosity why are you wanting a new adapter ?. Myself & many others still have the 500mw and it works great on BT4. The difference between the 1000 is minimal & personally I wouldn't go near the NH model yet.

get the 1w if you are wanting to pick up signals better i just ordered the alfa awus036h 1000w from ebay for $31.00 that's not that much money when i get it i will do a review of what i think of it :o

Thanks both for your reply. MosGuy i was looking to buy another adapter because my boy needs a better wifi card for his laptop so i was going to give him my AWUS036H 500mw and buy a new AWUS036H 1000mw. But it may be better to buy him a cheaper adapter and i keep the one i got.

With the 1000mw you may see an extra 4-5 APs. Though IMO it's not a huge boost from the 500. Prices have certainly dropped, I remember paying $85 odd for the 500 back in the early days. All depends how much you want to spend really :)

I was just wondering weather he could just buy bigger antenna to alfa 500w, I thought that alfa awus036 500w and 1000w are same adapter with different antenna?

nope - i've purchased a bigger antenna (with minimal improvemnt) for the alfa awus036 500w but it still remains a 500 watt card.

I was thinking of buying the AWUS036H 1000mw with the 9 dbi antenna but if you say you had minimal improvement is it best to stick to the cheaper AWUS036H 1000mw that comes with a 2 dbi.

I literally received my AWUS036H 1000mW with a 9dbi antenna in the mail today and its working wonderfully. The range is great and the signal is consistent. I bought mine for around $32 USD, which I thought was a great deal considering the 9dbi antenna came included.

Just thought I'd put my 2 cents in...
