When someone has not done their research, simply do not respond with an answer other then "go read ...." . Do not encourage the lazy people.
Sadly that doesn't work. History has prooven that people ask questions believing they are somehow entitled to an answer (though said belief is blatantly wrong in a volunteer community based on a free product). When they don't get an answer we end up with:
- People bumping threads
- People cross posting
- People posting the same question over and over again
- People PM'ing users who are online or have high post counts.
So in the end doing nothing is actually less productive (and more annoying to the majority) than telling them they're clueless and that they should get a clue (by searching or RTFM, etc).
