My alfa works with Windows, but it is not recognized in Backtrack 3: I tried it on two different laptops, when I typed in "airmon-ng" it showed only the built in card... Please, help. Thank you.

Why not also try BT4 pre-final?
So, you just used airmon-ng and since you didn't saw your card you came here and started a new thread? Yes, because we are computer-psychics, we know what's happening with your computer remotely.
Next time, try to post some more info, like dmesg, iwconfig, that sort of things...
Gosh, I need a coffee...
type lsusb make sure it sees your card listed (rtl8187)
type ifconfig wlan0 up
type airmon-ng start wifi0
type airmon-ng start wlan0
it should say something like monitor mode (mon0)
You should be good to go. I dont know alot bout linux, but this works for me. Good luck.
recognizes without any problems
Would it make any difference?
Well, when I type it, here is what it says:
ifconfig wlan0 up
wlan0: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device found
airmon-ng start wifi0
Interface Chipset Driver
eth1 Broadcom bcm43xx
airmon-ng start wlan0
Interface Chipset Driver
eth1 Broadcom bcm43xx
(that's not Alfa, that's the built in card) - and that's what I am talking about
Sorry, I am a real Newbie (as you can guess from the name "Newbie Area") and I don't know where to look for all that info you are referring to ..
Also, if there is any other thread that already discusses something like that - I would appreciate if you give me a link. Thank you.

When you typed lsusb was your card listed? If not i would try to use BT4, and yes it supports more drivers.
