X doesn't support the VIA Chrome9 HC3 out of the box
I made an bootable USB stick and booted it on a Samsung NC20 netbook.
After bootup I ran startx which returned:
Saw signal 11. Server aborting.
Giving up.
xinit: Connection refused (errno 111): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error.
After a bit of googling, it looks like, by default, there isn't any support for the VIA Chrome 9 chipset in Debian 5.
I don't know if this is a bug or an unsupported feature.
I'm more into Centos and not much into X, so if anyone can give me any directions on how to solve this, you will make me very happy :)

Yea, VIA doesn't support the linux community very well. You may be able to get vesa mode working, but it's not going to be pretty.
