To start, I thank you for taking the time to post this tutorial but one thing bothers me: why is it that you promote the usage of cRARK (a tool not included in BT4) as opposed to the other tools already included in BT4? Are you saying cRARK performs better in some form? Since I usually don't have a need to resort to bruteforcing I rarely use these line of tools, but recently I have seen the value these tools hold.

Go back through his blog posts. He's not promoting one thing or the other - =TAPE= started with the tools available to him in BT4, and they are slow or painful. Plus cRARk is capable of CUDA, something the other tools he has trialed are (or were) not capable of.

Looking forward to the speed tests of CUDA =TAPE=, keep up the good work.

Just to clear things up cRark is in the bt4 repo its just not included on the .iso mainly because since its a gpu based tool we keep those separate and a optional install for people that want to use them.

Well I do not mean to promote tools which are not included in Bactrack 4, however in cRARk's case, I found a document
made by pureh@te on the use of cRARk with CUDA.

I figured, if pureh@te writes about it in a backtrack 4 tutorial, then its a tool I can can install and make a vid about for the forums ;)

Also yes, it performed better in my tests that rarcrack.

Besides, this part of the forum is heavily moderated and if the Mods (not the viewers..) feel it is out of place, it will be removed.

I didn't have any objections, I only wanted to know what was so special about cRARK. That's all. ;)

I would also like to know the benchmark results. :confused:

when i try to use crark i just get this error:

root@bt:/pentest/passwords/crark# ./crark
./crark: error while loading shared libraries: libcudart.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

any one got any idea how i can get this to work?
