BT4 beta Hard drive install

I tried the guide and tried installing it to a Sun Virtual box session . I made a 12 gig virtual hdd, made 3 partitions and followed the guide as if I was installing to a normal HDD. I must have missed something because im getting.
"kernel panic - not syncing: No init found try passing init= option to kernel"
I looked at the guide and nothing points to this.
What am i missing, could this be caused by me having the wrong partition set with the boot flag?

i know its something lame and simple but its driving me batty

Thank you for the HD install guide - it worked as advertised.

My only hitch was running out of space whilst copying from the mounted ISO - I'd created a 4GB virtual disk which wasn't enough.

In order to get to the point where I could follow the excellent install guide I had to create a new virtual machine and the key thing here was choosing a custom setup in the New VM Wizard and then selecting the BusLogic SCSI adapter rather than LSI Logic which is the default for "Other Linux 2.6.x kernel" VMs. Maybe I should have chosen to create an Ubuntu type guest OS instead of "Other Linux 2.6.x kernel"...

I did everything but when I reboot Lilo gives the L 07 error so it after some unfarmilairity with lilo I figured out that it's failing at bios any ideas what I might need to reconfigure?

Yes "after some unfarmilairity" hence reading I actually found that page myself :-/ I understand not many people these days can do their own investigation but I did look around I still cant figure out how to fix it though.

Did you make sure that you had the correct partitions used or did you just type the commands given in the tutorial?

Yes i did ,
all commands were performed fine
i am installing bt4 on vmware , choosing system type linux other 2.6.x Kernel

Hi, thanks for your time and effort to create the tutorial, which works fine.

But,
after following you tutorial step by step to install BT4 on a 8GB USB Stick (everything worked like you've written it down in the PDF), I get a

Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(8,3) Error Message. :eek::eek::eek:

Any ideas, how I can fix this? What additional information can I provide, to give you an idea, what the problem is??

I too am also having a problem with kernal. At reboot I got "Kernal panic - not syncing: VFS:Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(8,19)". Do I have to reformat the hard drive and try again, or will I still be able to go back and fix the drive on the BT4 Live CD? As to what I need to do to fix the problem, I don't know :( .

Edit: I'm trying to install this on an old 6GB USB to IDE hardrive, which essentially acts like a thumbdrive. It uses /dev/sdb instead of /dev/sda for a path. I think the problem may lie in the lilo.conf file. No matter how many times I tried to change the lilo.conf file, I couldn't make the warning that says it can't find the boot sector, go away. I'll try reinstalling it and post the lilo.conf file here when I get to that part.
