8GB USB would be fine if you are talking about loading BackTrack onto it. It should run fast. I have BT3b on a 4GB USB and it runs fast. If you are planning on saving a lot of stuff to it then you might want a bigger one but 8 is fine. It's a matter of preference.
I have BT3b running perfectly fine on a 2GB USB stick. :D
I'm running on 8GB and its really fast -- much faster than the CD.
It runs fine for me on a 4GB stick.
Thanks for the answers
Another question,
I use shaman virtuels program to install it but the only thing i get is a 1kb file with the name boot it took like a sec to finish...so what should i do?
I don't think it matters the size of the USB stick. As long as it's big enough to hold BT and have a decent size SWAP partition, it will work nice and quick.
The amount of space needed will depend on your installation method. The live install takes up the least amount of space but has some limitations. 8gb should be more then enough space.
Got you all beat. I had it running on a 1Gb stick. Not much room for changes though.
