Default Problem with compiz fusion in Backtrack 4 Final

I'm using Nvidia Geforce Go 7400 card.

I've installed Nvidia 190.53 driver downloaded from Nvidia official web site. Below is a snapshot of the nvidia-settings. I believe the installation is successful as I can now see the Nvidia splash screen whenever I startx

    This is my xorg.conf.
    Code:
    # nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig
    # nvidia-xconfig: version 1.0 (buildmeister@builder75) Tue Dec 8 21:04:28 PST 2009

            Depth 24
        EndSubSection
    EndSection

After installing the Nvidia 190.53 Driver, I proceeded to install compiz using these commands

    Code:
    apt-get install compiz compiz-fusion-plugins-extra compiz-fusion-plugins-unsupported emerald simple-ccsm fusion-icon
I started compiz fusion through backtrack menu->system->compiz fusion
Then right click on compiz fusion icon and choose reload window manager.

But things doesn't seem to be working. All the windows just lose their title bar and pressing all the short cuts for the effects didn't make anything happen. For example, I pressed Super + M which is the shortcut for toggling negative screen and nothing happens.

I've tried different blending options.. Loose binding, indirect binding and it still didn't work...

Here's a screenshot of it. All the windows lose their title bar..

What have I done wrong? I've tried installing older version of the Nvidia Driver. 173 and also 177 and it still didn't work... It worked in Backtrack 3.

    Thanks for your time reading

I'm not seeing what this has to do with BT... Either way, you have installed the compiz-fusion-plugins-unsupported package. What does the "unsupported" part suggests you?

    From compiz wiki:
The plugins in the Plugins Unsupported package are freely available for users to try, but they are not supported. Most of them offer miscellaneous eye candy or special utilities, but they are either quick demonstrations with few features, or likely to have bugs.

i understand that compiz fusion isn't essential...and i gotta say backtrack 4 is a very comprehensive distro for pentesting...

i was just wondering if anyone got compiz fusion working in backtrack 4... and see whether I did anything wrong to make it not work...

I got it working in my setup

    Nvidia bfg 210
    intel q9550 cpu
Pretty much just copied the instructions verbatim from a post on installing compiz on bt4 beta.
Google " Compiz Fusion on BT 4 beta(cube/wobbly/transparent)"

Just copy and paste from this page and you will have compiz working
I am not compiz expert I just like it.
Just because you don't agree with it doesn't make it stupid

I followed these instructions to the letter as well and I also have the exact same problem as megamall. I will try to lookup any solutions in the Ubuntu forums...

The missing borders has been a reported problem in the Ubuntu forums and many other distro's...
Sorry I cannot remember the fix....

BUT, I can tell you that if you start installing compiz packages from apt-get or synaptic, there is a package ??compiz-backend???
I cannot remember exactly off the top of my head.. But it will replace one of the python libraries which will completely break Compiz.
And make it so it will not work at all!

I make no claim to be a linux expert or library expert but the only way i was able to fix it was a re-install.
Im sure it could have been fixed but, I tried for a couple of hours, and opted for the 10 minute FRESH HD install...
    And started over.

Also you have to get the Nvidia driver from the Nvidia website.
The driver in the repositories did not seem to work with compiz at all.
latest as of today 4/21/10 is 195.36.15

I had missing borders and i think it was a prob with the applied emerald theme. just go to emerald and change the Theme Engine in Edit Themes tab.
