hello guys!
This "video" comes from the thread still open and shows a "my" problem:
http://www.backtrack-linux.org/forums/backtrack-5-bugs/40556-ettercap-gtk-crashes-while-scanning-hosts.html
if you want to take a look:http://vimeo.com/25323765
I used the GUI for the video! also the "commands shell version" with the use of sslstrip, iptables, forwarding ... eccc. always give me the SAME result! The very strange thing for my little experience is that not always work "okay"!!!
bye and thanks to all those who contribute more to improving the DRAGON!sorry my googlenglish!:)

since BT5 is based off of Ubuntu (Lucid), some snooping around the 'buntu forums brought me this (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1160865).

Pretty much, completely delete (apt-get remove --purge nameofapp) ettercap and then redownload the files from the ettercap section of here (https://launchpad.net/~timothy-redaelli/+archive/drizzt/+packages), choosing amd64 for 64-bit and i386 for 32-bit. (make sure you download all 3 files.) Then to install the files, cd to where they downloaded and run

dpkg -i ./<.deb_file_here>
Keep the "./" and swap "<.deb_file_here>" for the name of each file you downloaded.

Then just navigate to Internet->Ettercap or type in "ettercap -G" inside a terminal.

Hope this helps, the same thing happened to me.
