Pentesting With BackTrack v.3.0

The team at Offensive Security is happy to announce the availability of PWB v.3.0 on March 21st, 2010.

With the security industry evolving so fast, keeping up with security tools and technologies is a tough task. As Infosec Training providers, we realize the importance of staying current  and strive to keep our courseware updated, while maintaining and improving its quality.

The new version has been aligned with BackTrack 4 and greatly improved. New modules have been added, old modules have been refreshed, and the PWB course is looking sharper than ever. For more information about this course update, check our Offensive Security Training Page.

We’ve uploaded some teaser screenshots for the impatient :

BackTrack Release Updates

We’ve had an amazing response from the community – over 105,000 unique downloads in a week. We expect the real number to larger, but we’re playing it safe. The forums have come to life, and we have implemented several suggested features and fixes. These have already been pushed to the repos and are available as updates.

The crew at www.social-engineer.org invited the BackTrack Dev team 4 to a special edition of their podcast.  We had a great time with this podcast and got to answer quite a few questions.  Check it out at the Social Engineer.org Podcast page.

Keep us posted via the BackTrack Forums, stay in touch with BT updates via RSS, and check often for site updates. We will be updating the site with new howto’s. Check out pure_hate’s new CUDA guide.

BackTrack 4 Final Released

BackTrack 4 Final is out and along with this release come some exciting news, updates, and developments. BackTrack 4 has been a long and steady road, with the release of a beta last year, we decided to hold off on releasing BackTrack 4 Final until it was perfected in every way shape and form.

With this release includes a new kernel, a larger and expanded toolset repository, custom tools that you can only find on BackTrack, and more importantly, fixes to all (well, most..) major bugs that we knew of. This release we received an overwhelming support from the community and we are grateful to everyone that has contributed to the success of this release.

We’ve moved BackTrack to a dedicated home, where you will be able to keep updated with the development status and latest news. Our goal was to finally produce a focused and dedicated security Linux distribution that has its own resources, personnel, and drive that have dedication in making BackTrack better than it has ever been.

When you download BackTrack 4, we hope that you will agree, that this is the best release that has ever been accomplished from the BackTrack team – appropriately codenamed “pwnsauce”.
